Billon (alloy)
Billon () is an alloy of a precious metal (most commonly silver, but also gold) with a majority base metal content (such as copper). It is used chiefly for making coins, medals, and token coins. The word comes from the French , which means 'log'. History The use of billon coins dates from ancient Greece and continued through the Middle Ages. During the sixth and fifth centuries BC, some cities on Lesbos used coins made of 60% copper and 40% silver. In both ancient times and the Middle Ages, leaner mixtures were adopted, with less than 2% silver content. Claudius Billon
Claudius Billon (13 February 1896 – 1 September 1944) was a captain in the French air force and the regional controller of the ''Armée secrète'' in '' Région R1'' (Rhône) during World War II. He was captured by German police and sentenced to death. His body was never found. Billon's name at the location of the regional secretariat of ''Combat'' in Lyon. Biography He was born on 13 February 1896, in Lyon, the son of Pierrette Brinet, a linen maker, and Claude Billon, a labourer. He enlisted as an infantryman during World War I and was strongly affected by the death of his older brother early in the War. In 1916, he fought in Verdun, where he was seriously injured. In 1917, he became an aviation warrant officer. In April 1919, he married his war godmother, Paule Vivenot Renée, in Neuville-sur-Saône (Rhône). The couple had a child and then divorced. Jonathan Keith Le Billon (born 20 September 1980) is a British born actor known for working in feature films, television shows and performing with classical theatre companies. Background Jonathan Le Billon was born to Keith and Janet Le Billon, at Huddersfield, West Yorkshire. Nicolas Billon (born March 22, 1978) is a Canadian writer. He is best known for his plays ''The Elephant Song'', ''Iceland (play), Iceland'', and ''Butcher (play), Butcher''. Biography Nicolas Billon was born in Ottawa, Ontario and grew up in Montreal, Quebec. He is the son of Johanne Archambault and writer Pierre Billon (writer), Pierre Billon. René Billon (2 August 1931 – 20 October 2020) was a French footballer who played for Rennes as a defender. Biography Born on 2 August 1931 in Kerlaz in the south of Finistère, Billon began his career with his hometown team of Kerlaz Sport, founded in 1943. A cousin of fellow footballer Jean-Pierre Darchen, he played for Kerlaz Sport with his brothers Henri and Jean, and he showed very good qualities as a footballer in his youth. In 1952, at the age of 21, Billon joined Stade Rennais F.C. in their amateur group. He stayed there for nearly two years before making his professional debut in a Ligue 2 game on 18 April 1954 in a home match against Lyon. He only played in one fixture that season on the first team, led by Salvador Artigas. Thomas Billon (fl. 1617–1647) was a celebrated French anagrammatist. In 17th-century Europe, anagrams were a literary passion. In France, the Bourbon king Louis XIII appointed Billon, a Provençal, to the position of Royal Anagrammatist. His responsibilities at court were the composition of anagrammatic prophecies, and of amusing or mystical anagrams of people's names. Yves Billon (born 9 July 1946, in Paris) is a French documentary film-maker. He is also founder of the production companies Les Films du Village and Zaradoc.
